Wyse Technology, the Global Leader in Thin Computing

Wyse Technology, the global leader in thin computing, announced that its entire line of thin clients are now VMware Ready Certified for VMware View™, enabling a superior user experience for those deploying a cloud computing or client virtualization environment with VMware View. The announcement was made in Cannes, France at VMworld Europe 2009.

Wyse's entire line of clients, including the Wyse Viance™ family of appliances plug and play with XenDesktop 3, providing organizations with the ideal means to capitalize on the benefits of thin computing to virtual clients, including increased user experience, enhanced security, simpler management, lower TCO, as well as a significantly lower environmental impact.

Reed's Green IT project included the replacement of 5500 desktop PCs with a Wyse thin computing solution, a new data centre infrastructure based on 64-bit blade servers, and Citrix virtualization software.

The decision to implement Wyse thin computing was driven by a goal of achieving real reductions in energy consumption from IT; and a separate goal on increased operational efficiencies while improving the quality of IT provisioning.

Our alliance with Planar gives Wyse a partner with a thorough understanding of the worldwide LCD channel and specialty display solutions, enabling us to deliver the most innovative next-generation thin client solutions,” said Ricardo Antuna, VP of business development and alliances, Wyse Technology.

Wyse thin client hardware runs Windows, Java, Linux, UNIX, and web based applications safely on central servers using a thin computing protocol.

This white paper has reviewed some of the considerations for a large-scale thin client deployment program and discussed how to design and manage a thin client computing infrastructure with Wyse Device Manager, WDM.

Wyse TCX Suite works with both Citrix ICA and Microsoft RDP protocols, enhancing them to support multiple monitors, a broad range of USB peripherals, and deliver the best multimedia experience with thin devices.

How to The Wyse line of Thin Clients?

Lenovo and Wyse Technology announced a new agreement that extends Lenovo's PC portfolio with Wyse thin client technology. The agreement offers Lenovo customers around the world access to a wide selection of thin clients, including management and multimedia software that complements Lenovo's notebooks and desktop PCs.

The Wyse line of thin and now zero clients have led the industry for eleven years running. When integrated with additional hardware, software, and services they become part of a complete solution to a business problem.

Enterprise users have increasingly turned to thin clients for desktop virtualization technology to centralize applications at the server level, and better manage and maintain IT resources and data. According IDC, a leading market research firm, thin client solutions are expected to increase 25 percent annually to reach 8.5 million units worldwide shipped in 2011.

This white paper has reviewed some of the considerations for a large-scale thin client deployment program and discussed how to design and manage a thin client computing infrastructure with Wyse Device Manager, WDM.

Wyse is introducing the company's latest-and-greatest for VMworld at San Francisco. The line-up includes the company's new fastest desktop thin client, two full-power thin notebooks, and new multimedia software for virtual desktop environments.

The Wyse VxxL mid-range series Thin Client delivers enhanced performance, dual-video support (with purchase of optional monitor splitter cable); a CardBus/PCMCIA slot; plus serial, parallel, and USB ports. The Wyse VxxL series thin client can fit easily into most work environments.

The new Wyse V class LE Thin Client is a device for virtual desktop environments using VMware VDI, Citrix or Microsoft. The client is Wyse's speediest offering, powered by a VIA Eden C7 processor running at 1.2GHz. t uses only 13 watts of power, has no fan, and is therefore silent.

As a portable alternative, Wyse is releasing the X90e and X90 Thin Notebooks. The laptop has no local HDD, which eliminates the safety concern if it is lost, broken or stolen. Both models match the desktop device CPU speed with a VIA c7-M ULV running at 1.2GHz, and weighs in at only 3.8 pounds.

How to Multi-Personality Display Wyse Terminals

The WY-150/WY-120 and WY-150ES/WY-120ES multi-personality display terminals are designed to work with the widest range of computers and applications, and set an ergonomic standard for the industry. Its repertoire of personalities, unparalleled ergonomics, and low emissions on the ES model make the WY-150 the top model of its class.

A computer terminal is an electronic or electromechanical computer hardware device that is used for entering data into, and displaying data from, a computer or a computing system.

Unlike traditional host-specific terminals, the WY-150/WY-120 and WY-150ES/WY-120ES work in a broad spectrum of environments. The WY-50 mode, offering superior compatibility with the most popular ASCII terminal, is only one of its ten operating modes. ASCII, ANSI (such as VT220), and PC Term personalities handle traditional minicomputer and mainframe environments as well as super multiuser microprocessors.

The WY-150/WY-120 and WY-150ES/WY-120ES deliver state-of-the-art integration with three display modes, including positive mode for black characters on a true paper-white background. Wyse uses a high-quality, extra-fast 78 Hz refresh rate to virtually eliminate screen flicker, then adds borderless full-screen video against a white bezel for further viewing comfort.

The Wyse 55 terminals is ready to work the instant it is turned on. If a computer is being used as a terminal several things happen before it can be used for clerking. First, the computer must go through its warm up before it displays a Windows screen or a C: prompt.

World-class ergonomics, safety, display integration, and a broad range of personalities provide the style and performance for which Wyse terminals are known.
The MAXA 5-user system requires a terminal splitter. The splitter attaches to a single serial port on the host computer (Com1 (3F8/IRQ4) or Com2 (2F8/IRQ3)). Up to 4 terminals can be attached to the terminal splitter.

The cable is configured to provide a null modem connection between the host computer and the terminal. Cable lengths of up to 200 feet are available and can be purchased from JBS Software.

WYSE Thin Clients - General Purpose Terminals

Wyse has discontinued the entire General Purpose Terminal product line and is no longer able to accept purchase orders for character terminal products and service requests.

End customer name

Which Wyse part # you need replacement for

Wyse partner Arcy Solutions can provide GPT Repair and Technical Support. Arcy also carries spare parts and various Wyse products including a limited supply of character terminals.

For some odd reason we are having a problem where the "s" key doesn't work on the keyboards for our WYSE thin clients. Our thin clients run on our Windows 2003 terminal network. Any ideas why the "s" key isn't recognized on the clients?

Terminal Server uses a technology that allows many client computers to access and run programs on a single Windows-2003 Server. Unlike a traditional PC network, the server computer is really running the program.

Enter the thin client. A thin client is effectively a slimed down PC that that has just enough processing power to run a connection to the terminal server.

PowerTerm WebConnect's secure browser-based terminal emulator (web-to-host) combines centralized management, single point zero client installation, pcAnywhere/VNC like capability, LPD, session reconnect and more.

Every printer created is visible to all clients, and the last terminal logged on, becomes the default printer for every client. The user is not in the power users og local admin group.

You can connect to a Wyse or DEC terminal if you cut the connector off a DEC MMJ cable and attach a RJ45. In this one case, the cable should be wired straight through, not flipped.

How to Integration of the print Client into other thin clients

My work place has given me a HP Thin Client to use as a terminal to VPN into our workplace network. I hate to carry this around which i a bulky equipment and takes up space in my small house. So I decided to convert it to a virtual disk.

In its "IT-education" pavilion Unicomp presented the most advanced types of the computer classrooms-HP Mobile Classroom and Thin Client solutions, which have many advantages when compared with average computer classrooms.

The HP Compaq t5530 and HP Compaq t5135 thin clients are already available in USA and will soon be available worldwide. For HPs market leading t5720 customers can use the Windows XP Pro print client. Integration of the print Client into other thin clients by HP is in preparation.

Travis Brown, Product Manager for HP’s Thin Client Solution quickly points out that despite the minor cost advantages, there are trade-offs between thin and fat-clients (desktop PCs). In a fat-client network, software runs locally. Individual users have different levels of control and freedom.
I don't know if converting that machine into a guest will fit into the security policy of your company too. To make that thing work, one should know at least, which Thin Client (HP Type) this is there are several kind of (Windows CE, Windows XP embedded, also Linux).

HP Thin Client saves money, when widely used, as no Hard Disc is required, resulting in lower price and lesser power consumption.
It probably wont fit into the whole security thing, but I still wanted to try. The exact model is HP compaq t5520 CE.

Server based computing makes sense if you plan to replace older terminals, or for workers using intranet applications or legacy ERP and groupware. In these scenarios, thin-clients deliver everything users need, but cost much less to deploy and manage than PCs.

Thin Client Computers - Understanding The Differences Between Pc's

What is a thin client? A thin client is a tiny, low-powered local device giving lower costs to purchase and to operate per-seat or operator, that is fed and controlled by the server or servers.

Because the thin client is relatively passive and low-maintenance, but numerous, the entire system is simpler and easier to install and to operate. As the cost of hardware plunges and the cost of employing a technician, buying energy and disposing of waste rises, the advantages of thin clients grow. Flash memory is the critical component of the Thin Client terminals.

Thin Client hardware is easier to seal against environmental hazards and contamination, just place them in a protective thin client enclosure and can sometimes withstand a wider temperature and vibration level, due to simplified components and lack of moving parts, such as hard drives and cooling fans.

The thin clients, were replacing standard PCs in machining areas, were coolant was present, thus causing a problem with electrics and fluid!

They found that, the cost of the thin clients plus protective thin client enclosures were more cost effective than using standard PCs, saving them a massive 47% on the project cost, with the added benefit that the IT investment had a higher level of data security.

Executive Summary about Thin Client by Roberto Bell

The Progress Of Thin Clients

In the early days of thin clients, networks were still employing hubs instead of switches. Hubs share all network traffic with all the attached devices; therefore, this type of technology did not work well with the boot-server type of thin clients.

Windows CE, Small in size, Windows CE could fit on the Disk-On-Chip (DOC) mounted inside the thin client as well as provide a place to embed applications.

Windows 2003 for thin clients now has high-color support, sound delivered to the desktop, data compression, and better printing support. Thin client technology has finally caught up with the vision. Today there are many thin client models to choose from with varying CPU speeds, memory capacities, storage capacities, and operating systems.

Customized Thin Clients, Customization of thin clients is gaining importance with both Linux and XPe models because customers have their own ideas of what is needed on a machine. Barcodes require a more sophisticated printer session on the thin client.

Tablet Thin Clients, A new thin-client device that is proving to be beneficial to many companies is a wireless tablet. Some thin-client manufacturers now sell wireless thin-client tablet displays so that existing full-screen inventory programs can be used directly on the tablet anywhere in the facility, eliminating the need to modify the inventory program.

All-in-One Thin Clients, Another growing trend is the use of "all-in-one" thin clients. These thin clients have the thin-client technology contained inside an LCD flat-panel monitor.

Biometric Security Features, The ability to secure access to thin clients with a biometric device is beginning to appear in thin-client applications. Once a user is verified by a biometric device, the thin client can start various programs based on who the user is and how the software is programmed.

A New World of Thin Clients, The demand for thin-client technology is increasing while smaller, faster, more portable, more secure, and more adaptable thin-client products keep appearing on the market. BOSaNOVA, Inc. is a leading developer of enterprise-class thin client and network appliance solutions for Linux, XP, and CE.Net.
